Stephen ScottStephen Scott has been appointed as interim director of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) while the City of Long Beach searches nationwide for a new permanent director, City Manager Patrick H. West announced today.

In a release issued Thursday afternoon, the city described Scott’s background as the current business operations bureau manager for PRM and former customer services manager in the Department of Technology and Innovation.

Scott will replace George Chapjian, the current PRM director, whose tenure will end June 26, just before he begins a position as community services department director for Santa Barbara County.

“Stephen has proven himself as a leader with the skills and vision to do this job,” said West in a statement. “I am confident that the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will be in very capable hands and continue to provide excellent services throughout the community until a new Director is chosen.”

Scott began his career in Long Beach as an administrative analyst in the city’s budget office before becoming assistant to the city manager, the release said.

He has obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Master’s Degree in Public Management from the University of Wisconsin.
