The southbound 405 Freeway at Cherry Avenue is expected to be limited to one lane until at least 7:15 p.m. Thursday night after five vehicles collided in the leftmost lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Eight people were injured in the crash and three were transported to local hospitals, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said.

The Sig Alert was set for an hour, starting at 6:15 p.m.
