In this screen shot from the movie trailer, Borat Sagdiyev (Sasha Baron Cohen) walks down Broadway in Downtown Long Beach hoping to avoid being hounded by fans.

If your weekend plans include watching “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” the new sequel to the 2006 mockumentary comedy by Sacha Baron Cohen, you’ve probably already heard about some of the highlights of the new film, including an alleged game of pocket pool or shirt tucking by former New York City Mayor and all-around bumbling henchman Rudy Giuliani.

But savvy local viewers will also note the title character appearing right here in Long Beach, with Borat driving a dilapidated truck around city streets and being hounded by fans on Broadway at The Promenade (the mural at the north end of The Promenade even gets a brief star turn) and at Harvey Milk Park.

While he was recognized in the film by paid extras, he was also noticed filming about town by unscripted citizens. Several people on social media first spotted Cohen-as-Borat in Long Beach in mid-August.

In one TikTok clip by user Alexandheir, Borat and a film crew are seen driving eastbound on Willow Street, crossing over Long Beach Boulevard in the Wrigley neighborhood near Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
