Long Beach police cited 10 people during a DUI checkpoint Saturday, June 4 in the city’s East Division, authorities said.

Nearly 1900 vehicles made their way through the checkpoint, which was on Lakewood Boulevard—between Wardlow Road and Spring Street—from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Police screened 343 drivers, citing seven for operating a vehicle without a license or driving with a suspended license, the LBPD said Tuesday morning. Three more people were cited for driving a vehicle with various code violations, according to the LBPD. No arrests were made.

“The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired,” according to the LBPD.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
