Police today identified a 35-year-old man who allegedly assaulted his father and brother and pointed a gun at officers before barricading himself inside a Long Beach home for hours.

John Oun was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a police officer, battery and resisting arrest, and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to jail records.

Using a police dog, SWAT officers took Oun into custody shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, ending a standoff that began about six hours earlier and resulted in the evacuation of several surrounding buildings, Long Beach police Detective Jennifer Arzola said.

Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Gaviota Avenue, about a mile north of downtown Long Beach, on a battery report at 7:47 a.m. Officers found the two victims, and then confronted Oun, who allegedly pointed a gun at them before running into the residence, Arzola said.

Officers repeatedly tried to call Oun out of the home via a loudspeaker but got no response. A SWAT team was sent to the location which finally arrested Oun, Arzola said.

The suspect’s father was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and his brother sustained minor injuries, authorities said. Their names were not released.
