Homicide detectives are investigating after a body was discovered floating in the Long Beach harbor Monday morning.

The body was found offshore near the 1100 block of Pier F Avenue around 10 a.m. The location is near Fire Station 15, where the department houses its fire boat, Vigilance.

Not every body found in the water is immediately treated as a homicide. Police often say they don’t suspect foul play while they wait for the coroner to determine an official cause of death. The coroner’s office hasn’t yet made any determination in this case.

Police declined to immediately reveal what caused them to believe this death was suspicious. And an LBPD spokesman could not provide additional details including the age or gender of the victim.
