Police opened a homicide investigation Tuesday after an autopsy revealed that the death of a homeless man found near the Port of Long Beach was caused by blunt force trauma.

Police found the man’s body around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 4 when officers were called about a dead person in the 300 block of Windsor Way, which is close to the Queen Mary, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The man’s partially decomposed body was in a “somewhat desolate area of the port,” and there were no obvious signs of trauma, police said.

Autopsy findings revealed “evidence of blunt force trauma to the upper torso resulting in death,” and on Tuesday the Long Beach Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

Homicide detectives worked Tuesday to process the scene and canvass the area for witnesses and evidence, according to police.

The man’s name was not released, but police said he was a homeless and in his 50s.
