The 45-year-old man who was accused with leaving his dates with the bill after he “dined and dashed,” pleaded no contest today to three misdemeanor counts of defrauding an innkeeper by nonpayment and one misdemeanor count of petty theft.

Paul Guadalupe Gonzales was sentenced to 120 days in county jail, three years of probation and was ordered to pay restitution after taking a negotiated plea agreement, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Gonzales took financial advantage of women he met through online dating sites between May 2016 and April 2018, by taking them to dinner and leaving without paying his share of the bill.

In 2016, he took a woman to the Long Beach Yard House where he ordered three glasses of wine, an appetizer, a Caesar salad, a shrimp entree and a dessert before leaving without paying, authorities said in court papers.

Prosecutors said in two instances, the restaurants paid for the check after Gonzales left his dates and, in one instance, he received services from a hair salon and, again, left without paying.

A superior court judge in Pasadena dismissed the eight felony counts of extortion and two felony counts of attempted extortion in September. He is now prohibited from using dating websites Plenty Of Fish and Bumble during his probation. In addition, he has to stay 100 yards away from five of the Pasadena restaurants he is accused of defrauding: Smitty’s Grill, Buca di Beppo, Houston’s, Mercado and Parkway Grill.

Gonzales also admitted to a probation violation and has to serve 45 days of community labor. He is expected to surrender on Jan. 14 to serve his sentence, according to the DA’s Office.
