A man shot at two dogs, wounding one of them, when they attacked his dog in North Long Beach, police said.

The man was walking his dog on a leash around 12:50 p.m. today when the other dogs, who weren’t on leashes, attacked near Chestnut Avenue and 57th Street, LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

The man fired one shot and then left on foot, De Prez said.

The bullet hit one of the attacking dogs, who was found wounded but alive on a nearby street, according to police. Long Beach Animal Services responded to help the animal.

Police say they’re still looking for the shooter. If he’s found, it would be up to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office to decide what if any charges to file against him, but his actions, “can be criminally prosecuted,” De Prez said.
