The female driver of a stolen vehicle and her male passenger were arrested by Long Beach police Thursday morning, following a deputy pursuit that began in Lynwood, authorities said.

Officers were notified of the pursuit by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Air Unit at 10:25AM, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokesman Sgt. Brad Johnson.

Deputies had been pursuing the stolen vehicle in Lynwood when it entered Long Beach, near the Long Beach (710) Freeway and Ocean Boulevard, he said. Deputies canceled their pursuit on the ground but the air unit had followed the car into Long Beach, Johnson added.

Under the direction of the air unit, Long Beach units were able to find the car near Pacific Avenue and Broadway, he said. Upon attempting to pull over the car, the driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began.

“We pursued the vehicle to the area of 6th Street and Olive Avenue where the stolen vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle and stopped,” Johnson said.

The driver fled the vehicle on foot and taken into custody a few minutes later, he said. The passenger remained in the vehicle and immediately taken into custody without incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
