A man who escaped from a minimum-security inmate camp in Riverside County last Friday surrendered to authorities in Long Beach on Monday, the Press-Enterprise reported.
31-year-old Brian Richard was serving a five-year sentence at Bautista Conservation Camp near Hemet when he disappeared after an evening dorm check on December 20. Department of Corrections spokesperson Bill Sessa told the Press-Enterprise that the department worked closely with Riverside and Los Angeles counties’ Sheriff’s Departments fugitive apprehension teams to find the missing inmate.
Richard gave himself up at around 11AM Monday at a Long Beach intersection at the insistence of his wife, Sessa said, and he has been transported to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. It is unclear yet if the county will be seeking escape charges against him.
