A man was fatally stabbed Wednesday near a homeless encampment in a commercial area of Cerritos.
Deputies responded about 2:55 p.m. to an abandoned railway between commercial buildings near the 16200 block of Shoemaker Avenue, which is just south of Alondra Boulevard, to investigate a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“It appears the victim was a transient and lived nearby in a homeless encampment,” according to a sheriff’s department statement. Authorities haven’t released any more details on the man’s identity.
No suspect description was available and no weapon has been recovered, officials said.
