A man is dead following a shooting near Drake Park Tuesday night, according to authorities.

Police say they responded around 11 p.m. to the 900 block of Maine Avenue near Drake Park after multiple gunshots were heard in the area.

Upon arriving to the area, officers located a wounded man on the ground on the north side of the park along Loma Vista Drive and Corvo Court, police said.

Officers rendered aid to him until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported him to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the Long Beach Police Department

His identity was not revealed as authorities work to notify his relatives.

Though authorities are still trying to piece together a motive for the shooting, police said the man was in the area near the park when several unknown male suspects approached him and started attacking him. At some point during the attack, one of the suspects shot at the man, hitting him multiple times in the upper body, police said.

No arrests were made as the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

A portion of North Loma Vista Drive was closed as officers investigated the shooting into Wednesday morning.
