A man was shot to death Monday night in North Long Beach when two men approached him and fired multiple rounds, police said.
Police said someone called them after hearing the gunfire around 10:34 p.m. When officers arrived at Long Beach Boulevard and West Forhan Street they found a man lying on the sidewalk, police said. He’d been shot in the upper and lower body, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.
He died at the scene, according to police.
Nobody has been arrested and police have not identified a motive at this time, according to the department.
Detectives, however, believe the victim was approached by two unknown men wearing dark clothing and masks who confronted him at gunpoint. Detectives believe at least one of the two suspects fired a gun. Both suspects were last seen running westbound on West Forhan Street from Long Beach Boulevard, according to the department.
A neighbor, who declined to give his name because of safety concerns, said he heard multiple gunshots.
“I said to my wife, sounds like a pretty heavy gun … and they unloaded the pistol. Six shots,” he said.
A second neighbor, who declined to give his name, said the video camera behind his home recorded two men walking around the back alley around the time of the shooting.
In the footage, two men, who were unmasked at the time, hid behind trashcans as a car drove past, the neighbor said. The men walked away and minutes later reemerged with another man, he said. They were all wearing masks and sweatshirts with “the hoodie up,” according to the neighbor.
“I would say about 10:20 they came with masks and they were walking back really slow, back to the motel,” he said. “I heard the shots around 10:28 to be exact.”
The neighbor said he also saw the victim lying on the sidewalk near the offices of the nearby Kay’s Motel.
Authorities have not publicly identified the slain man.
Police asked anyone with information to contact Detectives Eric Thai or Juan Carlos Reyes at 562-570-7244.
