An intruder was accidentally shot at by a resident late Sunday night in Belmont Shore, police said.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Granada Avenue at about 11:15PM for an “unknown trouble call,” said LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

A preliminary investigation found that a resident armed himself against an intruder. When the suspect jumped to run away, the resident became startled and accidentally discharged his gun.

The male suspect was not struck, and was able to flee before climbing up a nearby palm tree, which he then fell from.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital for evaluation prior to booking.

No further information was available, and the investigation is ongoing. We will update this story as we learn more.
