UPDATE | The 29-year-old man suspected of killing the young female escort—a Long Beach resident—whose dead body was found last Tuesday in a Newport Beach office building complex pleaded not guilty Monday to murder.

Isaac HernandezNain Isaac Nieto Hernandez, arrested Wednesday in his hometown of Santa Ana, is scheduled to appear next in court on January 12 for a pretrial hearing. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.

Hernandez worked as a janitor in the office building complex in which 23-year-old Sarai Alcaraz was found.

Alcaraz’s body was found last Tuesday morning at a building in Newport Beach, located at 5030 Campus Drive. According to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department (NPBD), Alcaraz was working as an escort and met Hernandez at the building.

Police arrived at 12:11AM Tuesday morning, responding to a welfare check call from Alcaraz’s driver, according to a law enforcement source. Alcaraz worked for Cyren Entertainment in Fullerton, an escort service that brands itself as an “adult entertainment agency,” providing “entertainers” for parties and events, a law enforcement source stated.

It was not clear whether Alcaraz’s body was found in the lobby of the business complex or an unoccupied suite. It is unclear how Alcaraz died, and police declined to comment on whether her body bore signs of trauma. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, but the official cause of death is pending further investigation and toxicology tests.

1/4/15 at 2:13PM | The suspect accused of killing a young female escort whose body was found last week in a Newport Beach office complex was charged today with murder.

Nain Isaac Nieto Hernandez, 29, was arrested Wednesday at a traffic stop in Santa Ana, where he lives, and worked as a janitor in the office building in which the body of 23-year-old Sarai Alcaraz of Long Beach was found. He will be arraigned this afternoon in Santa Ana.

Alcaraz’s body was found Tuesday morning at a building in Newport Beach, located at 5030 Campus Drive. According to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department (NPBD), Alcaraz was working as an escort and met Hernandez at the building.

Alcaraz worked for Cyren Entertainment in Fullerton, an escort service that brands itself as an “adult entertainment agency,” providing “entertainers” for parties and events, a law enforcement source stated.

According to court records, Hernandez has had previous run-ins with the law, including pleading guilty for possessing false government documents, and being arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license, in 2010.

Court records show Hernandez was sentenced to 20 days in jail and 20 days working with a Caltrans crew for his prior convictions, but he failed to keep his payments on the fine and complete his work with Caltrans, resulting in the revoking of his probation in June 2013.

An arrest warrant was issued in June for his failure to complete the mandated tasks, and he was required to perform 76 hours of community service. He completed this task in October and was refunded $1,195 in overpayment of fines last month, court records documented.

“At this point we don’t have any information we can share on the connection between the two of them,” Manzanella said. “Detectives will be interviewing him and preparing their investigation, which will establish that link.”

PREVIOUSLY: Long Beach Woman Found Dead Tuesday; Police Investigating as Homicide

12/30/15 at 11:06AM | Police are investigating the suspicious death of a young Long Beach woman who was found dead inside a Newport Beach building on Tuesday, according to the Newport Beach Police Department (NBPD).

Authorities said friends of Sarai Alcaraz, 23, called the NBPD at 12:11AM on Tuesday, December 29, after they were unable to find her.

Alcaraz had last been seen at an office building on Campus Drive an hour or two before police received the call, officials said.

“She had also stopped responding to text messages or answering her cell phone, which raised concern for her safety,” NBPD officials stated.

Officers then began to search the area, and shortly after 1:30AM found Alcaraz’s body inside a business called Coast to Coast Copy, located at 5030 Campus Drive, according to authorities.

Police did not say if her body showed signs of trauma.

Detectives are investigating Alcaraz’s death as a homicide. The manner and cause of death will be determined pending autopsy and toxicology reports from the Coroner’s Office, NBPD officials said.

“We have one clue—we do have a witness in the area who saw a white van near the building,” NBPD spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said. “It was a time of night where there’s not that many people in the area, so we’re hopeful that they might have some information that can help us.”

Detectives were interviewing people who work in the building, canvassing the area and checking for surveillance cameras, she said.

“As to what her [Alcaraz’s] connection to this building is, we’re still working to establish that, as well,” Manzella said.

The Newport Beach Police Department is asking anyone with additional information to call the Police Department’s hotline at 1.800.550.NBPD. Messages may be left anonymously, if so desired.
