Yesterday, a Long Beach man was arraigned for allegedly robbing a business near St. Mary Medical Center at knifepoint last month, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced this morning.
Jeremiah Shadale Edwards, 25, was charged with one count of commercial robbery, with enhancements of using a knife to commit the crime and for the crime being a violent felony, a release issued by the LBPD stated.
According to the LBPD, a suspect entered a business on the 900 block of Long Beach Boulevard on February 27, brandishing a knife and demanding currency from the cashier.
Shortly after, the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money, leaving the clerk unharmed.
As detectives conducted their investigation, they identified Edwards as the primary suspect and discovered he regularly visited downtown Long Beach.
The LBPD notified officers assigned to the bike unit, who happened to see the suspect on March 15. Edwards was on the 400 block of Pacific Avenue, and was arrested without incident, according to the LBPD.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration on March 16, 2016. Edwards is currently being held at Los Angeles County Men’s Jail and his bail is set at $170,000.
