A Long Beach man was charged with murder Thursday following the fatal stabbing of the mother of his children in April, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Ngounsay Keo, 59, was charged with one felony count of murder and two felony counts of making criminal threats, officials stated. The felony complaint includes a knife allegation.

Police responded to a home on the 1200 block of Stanley Avenue on April 13 where they found Keo armed with a knife and suffering from an apparent self-inflicted stab wound, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). After officers eventually detained the defendant they found a woman in a bedroom dead from an apparent stab wound to her upper torso, police officials stated.

She was identified as 40-year-old Los Angeles resident Karina Duch. Authorities said Keo and Duch were in a relationship for about 23 years and have two children together, ages 14 and seven.

Keo is scheduled back in court on July 28 for a pre-preliminary hearing at the Long Beach Courthouse. If convicted as charged he faces a maximum possible sentence of 29 year and eight months to life in state prison.

The LBPD is investigating the case.
