A Long Beach man pleaded no contest Tuesday to the attempted murder of a Long Beach city code enforcement inspector, who he shot in the face in July 2012, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office (LADA).
Anthony Glen Gorpospe, 53, admitted in court Tuesday to opening fire on a city inspector and a cleaning crew who arrived to his home in the 6100 block of North John Avenue, which had received several code violations, on July 5, 2012 at about 8:00AM.
Gorpospe said he fired from inside his front door, and he hit the city inspector near the left eye. This caused the 51-year-old inspector to lose the use of that eye, said Deputy District Attorney Geoffrey Lewin with the Crimes Against Peace Officers Unit in the LADA’s statement.
Gorospe also pleaded no contest to two counts of assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm for shooting at officers while he was barricaded inside his home for seven hours.
Gorospe is expected to be sentenced to 25 years in state prison on April 14.
