A man suspected of being connected to a June murder in Long Beach was arrested by police Saturday and is being held in county jail on $2 million bail, authorities announced Tuesday.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers investigated a vehicle on Saturday, August 1 at 5:50PM on the 1300 block of Ohio Avenue where Jorge Luis Cruz, 26, was a passenger, according to a press release.

Officers then recognized Cruz as a subject wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Douglas Wilson on June 22 on the 800 block of Cedar Avenue.

Cruz then fled from the vehicle but police eventually found him and took him into custody at about 8:15PM that night after establishing a containment perimeter and using air support and K9 services.

Cruz appeared in Long Beach Superior Court on Monday but his arraignment was postponed until August 18.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the murder is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Hugo Cortes and Oscar Valenzuela at 562.570.7244.
