A dispute between an angry employee and a supervisor Thursday afternoon resulted in the employee being tazed and arrested by police officers, authorities said.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers responded to a business on the 1700 block of Harbor Avenue at about 1:08PM regarding the dispute, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

The calling party told police that the male employee was possibly armed with a weapon, but no weapon was actually seen.

The employee refused to comply with orders, the responding officers said, and “an electronic control device was utilized to gain his compliance and safely take him into custody,” Arrona said.

Officers determined the man did not actually have a weapon, and he was taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared prior to being booked on charges of misdemeanor battery against his supervisor and for resisting/obstructing arrest.

“It is department policy that any individual who has been exposed to an electronic control device must be transported to a hospital and checked out by a medical professional,” Arrona said.
