A Long Beach woman was charged with murder Friday for the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend in Long Beach on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Yvonne Marie Pina, 32, was charged with one count of murder, including a special allegation that she used a deadly and dangerous weapon—a knife—during the commission of the crime, the district attorney’s office stated.

Pina was scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon at the Long Beach Superior Courthouse where prosecutors planned to ask for bail to be set at $1.02 million, according to authorities.

Pina and her boyfriend Aaron Flores, 21, had been reportedly fighting for several days prior to the killing, prosecutors stated. Then, on Tuesday, March 1 they allegedly fought again at her home and the victim tried to leave in the defendant’s car.

“Unable to leave, Flores asked a neighbor to use the neighbor’s phone,” prosecutors added. “Meanwhile, Pina allegedly returned to her home to get a knife. She then reportedly approached the victim, who was still with the neighbor outside, and then stabbed the victim.”

Prosecutors said Flores reportedly asked Pina for help and she drove him to the hospital where he later died. Police arrested Pina in connection with the killing later that day.

The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is investigating the case.
