A Long Beach judge on Tuesday sentenced a man to 16 years to life in prison for stabbing his longtime girlfriend’s mother to death in 2016.

Prosecutors said Luis Jimenez, 35, stabbed 68-year-old Margarita Valdez Castro 11 times on May 21, 2016 while his unsuspecting girlfriend and their kids waited for him in the car outside.

He left with the family to a school event after and Castro was later found dead in her home.

A jury found Jimenez guilty of second-degree murder with a knife-use allegation in August.
