A Long Beach man was hospitalized after he shot himself Sunday morning, authorities said. He was later arrested for negligently discharging a firearm, among other charges, including having an outstanding warrant.

Police were called to the 2400 block of Spaulding Street at 8:32AM on Sunday, April 24 regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Arriving officers found Francisco Rodriguez, 42, with a gunshot injury that a further investigation revealed to be self-inflicted. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by Long Beach paramedics.

Rodriguez was booked for carrying a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and having an outstanding warrant.

He is being held at Long Beach City Jail. His bail is set at $35,678.

The investigation remains ongoing.
