A man was shot to death at a park in Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, and police are asking anyone who may have been at the park to come forward with information.
Police said the shooting occurred around 2:34 p.m. Sunday in the area of 14th Street and Long Beach Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found a man on the ground near 14th Street and Palmer Court suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The Long Beach Fire Department took the man to a local hospital where he died, police said. Authorities identified him as Thomas Ferguson, a 33-year-old resident of the city of Fontana.
Police said the man was at 14th Street Park when he was shot and the suspect fled the scene.
“Detectives believe there were multiple people in or near 14th Street Park when the shooting occurred and are seeking the public’s assistance for any additional information,” police said.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, police said.
