Police today are investigating the death of a homeless man found shot along the Long Beach shoreline.

Officers responded at 11:53 p.m. Thursday to a shots-fired call in the 700 block of East Shoreline Drive, where they found the victim on the Riviera Point Jetty near the Shoreline Marina suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the LBPD.

Authorities have identified the victim as a 43-year-old Long Beach resident who was homeless. His name was Kevin Porter, according to the LA County Coroner’s office.

“At this time in the investigation, the circumstances regarding the shooting, motive and suspect information are not known,” the LBPD said in a statement. “The incident remains under investigation by homicide detectives.”
