A man was killed early Tuesday morning following a fight that escalated into a shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers were sent to the 2500 block of E. Pacific Coast Highway, which is near Junipero Avenue, around 3:40 a.m. after they received a call about a fight and shots being fired, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found a man on the ground with gunshot wounds to his torso, police said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of his family.

Police believe the victim was involved in a dispute with an unknown number of suspects before officers got to the scene.

The reason for the shooting and potential suspects are currently unknown, according to a police statement.
