A driver was shot while he fled from a man who brandished a gun at him near the intersection of Market Street and Atlantic Avenue early this morning, according to Long Beach police.

Police said the victim was in his car, stopped in the 5300 block of Lime Avenue shortly before 2 a.m., “when an unknown male adult approached him and brandished a firearm.”

When the victim drove off, the gunman fired, hitting him in the upper body, police said. According to the LBPD, the victim kept driving until he got to Atlantic Avenue and Alondra Boulevard in Compton where he flagged down a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy.

Medics took the victim to a hospital in Lynwood to treat his wound, which wasn’t life-threatening, police said.

Because the shooting reportedly happened in Long Beach, the LBPD took over the investigation and is still trying to determine a motive and identify a suspect.
