Long Beach Police Department SWAT officers were dispatched to the area of Wardlow Road and the San Gabriel River Monday night where they searched for a man who reportedly had a gun near El Dorado Park, but after an hours-long operation, they could not find him.

Police say three boys were near El Dorado Park Monday evening when the man pointed what looked like a real gun at them but did not fire the weapon. Officers responded to the scene at around 7:03 p.m. and established a perimeter. Soon after, they called in the SWAT team and evacuated nearby residents, authorities said.

After a search of the area, officers were unable to locate the man and determined that he had fled the scene before their arrival, according to the LBPD. During the search, however, officers found a pump-action replica rifle that is believed to belong to the suspect, police said. No injuries were reported.

Police have not yet identified the suspect or a motive, and the investigation is ongoing.
