Police are investigating a shooting after a man says he was hit during a drive-by yesterday in Long Beach’s North Wrigley neighborhood.

Police say they were called to a nearby hospital at around 10:52 p.m. Wednesday after a man transported himself there with gunshot wounds to the lower body.

The man told police that he was walking in the area of Pacific Avenue and 29th Street near Veterans Park when he was approached by a car with about four people inside.

“An unknown number of vehicle occupants discharged a firearm, striking the victim,” Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Richard Mejia said.

Officers responded to the area where the wounded man said he had been shot, but they were unable to locate a crime scene, Mejia said.

“At this time, no suspect information is available and the motive for the shooting is unknown,” Mejia said.

No other injuries were reported.
