A 19-year-old man was shot to death in Paramount early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Few details were immediately available, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said they responded to a call for help at about 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 8200 block of Somerset Boulevard, which is about a mile from the northern Long Beach city limits.

Deputies found the victim lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his upper body, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The man was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival.

Officials could not offer any suspect information, and no arrests have been made.

Detectives were still on the scene late Tuesday morning. They had taped off Somerset Boulevard between Orizaba Avenue and Indiana Avenue.

An unidentified employee at the Zagas Tire and Wheels shop, who was boxed out of his shop due to the investigation, said the area is normally peaceful.

“This never happens here,” he said.

LASD asked that anyone with information regarding the shooting contact the department’s homicide bureau at 323-890-5500.
