UPDATE 4:28PM | Residents in the neighborhood around the 600 block of Linden Avenue, where police dispatched for a call regarding a person with a gun Tuesday morning, were evacuated from their homes after officers discovered a suspicious device.

The LASD Bomb Squad responded and determined it was not an explosive device, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Marlene Arrona on Tuesday afternoon.

Residents were able to return to their homes shortly thereafter, she said.

Suspect Arrested After Threatening to Shoot Victim

ORIGINAL 10:15AM | A suspect was arrested after he allegedly threatened to shoot a woman early Tuesday morning.

Long Beach Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene on the 600 block of Linden Avenue at about 3:25AM after receiving a call about a person with a gun, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

The suspect threatened to shoot the victim, she said. The victim managed to get away and run to a neighbor’s house to call the police.

The suspect refused to exit the house, Arrona said, and the SWAT Team was called to barricade the armed suspect. The suspect was then taken into custody.

The incident caused Sixth Street to be closed between Elm Avenue and Atlantic Avenue from about 6:00AM to 7:40AM while police investigated.

No other details were immediately available. The investigation is ongoing. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
