The American Heart Association (AHA) will raise awareness and funds for heart disease and stroke research next month with its annual 5K walk/run, set to take place September 14.
The event at Rainbow Lagoon Park at Shoreline Village will promote healthy habits, like walking, as a regular part of life. According to AHA, heart disease and strokes are the No. 1 and No. 4 killers in the nation.
The association said the overall goal in Los Angeles County is to raise $1.75 million. Races will also be held in Santa Monica, Pasadena, Santa Clarita and Palmdale.
Those who raise $100 or more will receive a free Heart Walk T-shirt. The event is free and open to the public, with donations encouraged. Participants can enter the race as either individuals or with a team.
In addition to the 5K run/walk, the event will also include a one-mile survivor route, kids fun zone, live entertainment, health expo, free health screenings, CPR demonstrations, sponsor booths and giveaways.
