Long Beach detectives on Thursday afternoon arrested a 32-year-old Bakersfield man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a teenage boy in September, police officer Ben Hearst said.

Sergio Sinhue Gutierrez surrendered without incident after detectives served a search warrant at a home in central Long Beach, authorities said. They found evidence in the home, but Hearst did not specify what that evidence was.

Gutierrez was booked into the Long Beach City jail on the charges of attempted murder and is being held in lieu of a more than $3 million bail, according to Hearst.

Police say he shot the teenage boy in the upper body shortly before 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 21 in 600 block of W. Seventh Street, near Edison Elementary School.

Police do not know the motive of the shooting, but are investigating it as gang-related.
