A man was arrested Sunday after a standoff of more than five hours at a Long Beach house, authorities said.

It started with a report of shots fired at about 7:45PM Saturday in the 4500 block of Village Road, Long Beach police Sgt. James Richardson said.

“While officers began their investigation they heard shots being fired from inside the residence,” Richardson said.

Surrounding houses were evacuated and the SWAT team was called to the scene, he said.

The man refused to leave the house, so SWAT officers fired tear gas into the home and he came outside, Long Beach police Lt. Omar Martinez said.

The man was arrested at 1:00AM, Richardson said.

There were no injuries and an investigation continued to determine why the man fired shots inside the house, he said.
