UPDATE | A Long Beach man was arrested and charged with attempted murder shortly after allegedly shooting another man on Tuesday morning, authorities said. 

Joseph Tyrone Reed, 34, was arrested on the 800 block of East Tenth Street, at about 10:34AM on Tuesday, September 1, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Megan Zabel said. 

He was charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting and is being held at Long Beach Jail on a $500,000 bail, she said.

9/1/15 at 12:21PM | One man was struck by gunfire in Long Beach Tuesday morning and another man detained by police after a shooting that took place just a few blocks from St. Mary Medical Center, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to Tenth Street and Myrtle Avenue at 10:26AM on Tuesday, September 1, in response to reports of gunshots heard, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Megan Zabel said.

Arriving police then located a man struck by gunfire on the 1000 block of Olive Avenue, she said.

He was transported in stable condition to a local hospital by paramedics. 

Officers were able to detain a man who was near the crime scene. He was described as a subject of interest in the shooting.

The motive for the shooting is unclear at this point and the investigation is ongoing.
