Police say they’ve arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of killing his roommate during a fight inside their Washington neighborhood apartment last week.
Saleem Omom Smith, 46, was taken into custody Monday on suspicion of murdering Marcus George, 50, on July 24, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said they found George unresponsive in the apartment in the 1700 block of Magnolia Avenue. around 9 p.m. He had been assaulted while inside the residence, according to authorities, and he died at the scene.
Detectives later learned that Smith and George were roommates and that the two had been arguing that night, according to authorities.
Though it wasn’t immediately clear what they were arguing about, police said the dispute escalated into a fight, which resulted in George’s death.
Smith’s bail was set at $2 million. Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office later this week for filing consideration, police said.
Police asked anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7244.
