A man who police say was found dead inside an apartment in the city’s Washington neighborhood earlier this week has been identified.
Authorities said he is 50-year-old Marcus George. George’s cause of death has yet to be revealed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, though police previously said he appeared to have been assaulted.
Police found an unresponsive George on the floor of a residence in the 1700 block of Magnolia Avenue just after 9 p.m. Monday.
He was suffering from injuries to his upper body and was determined dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.
Homicide detectives later learned that George was inside the apartment when someone assaulted him, according to authorities.
No suspect information is yet available, and the motive for the assault is unknown.
