Police on Monday were trying to find a gunman who wounded a woman in Central Long Beach over the weekend on the same block where a man was killed a few days earlier, according to authorities.

Police said they got a call about gunfire around 11:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. They learned a male subject with a gun had started shooting at a home there and then ran off, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

The gunfire hit a woman, but her injury was minor, and she decided to get medical treatment on her own, Pratt said.

Two days earlier, a man was killed inside a home on the same block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, according to police.

Authorities said a gunman confronted 42-year-old Ellis Spillman before shooting him in the upper torso around 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 28.

Pratt couldn’t immediately say whether the shootings were connected or if they occurred at the same home. No suspect information or details on a motive were available in either shooting.

Both shootings may be gang-related, according to police. They asked anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting to call investigators at 562-570-7370. Anyone with information about Spillman’s death can contact homicide detectives at 562-570-7244, authorities said.
