Someone fired gunshots at a street takeover last night in North Long Beach, but it’s so far unclear why, authorities said. No injuries were reported, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers dispatched to the area of Victoria Street and Long Beach Boulevard at 3:10 a.m. Saturday were told while en route that gunshots were also heard in the area, according to a police statement.

“Evidence was collected,” police said. “The suspect information and motive for the shooting are being investigated. The investigation is ongoing.” No arrests were reported.

Street takeovers, where drivers block off roadways to perform dangerous stunts — often in front of a crowd of spectators — have been a stubborn problem, especially in North Long Beach.

Local officials have tried to crack down on them, including passing a new law making it a crime to promote the outlaw events.

And last month, the CHP impounded dozens of vehicles after hundreds of racers took over local freeways. Social media, an officer said, has made it easier than ever for word to spread about the gatherings.
