The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) announced today they had revoked the liquor license for the Downtown restaurant Taco Beach on Monday, Feb. 1.

The ABC said it began looking into Taco Beach after a series of troublesome incidents at the Mexican restaurant on Pine Avenue.

Between March 2017 and July 2019, the Long Beach Police Department responded to 26 reports of crimes including 12 reports of disorderly conduct and 11 calls about battery.

More severe incidents included reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on Dec. 9, 2017, a homicide attempt on June 16, 2019 and sexual battery on July 11, 2019, according to a document provided by the ABC.

The ABC also alleged that Taco Beach employees delayed and obstructed the police department’s investigations in some cases.

“When that happens over a course of a period of time, our department looks at that place as a disorderly premises,” said Brad Beach, a supervising agent in charge with the ABC. “So we began investigating based on their contacts with the business and found that it was enough to proceed with an accusation against the business and serious enough to go for revocation of the license.”

There are two Taco Beach located in Long Beach. The second location on Bellflower Boulevard near Los Altos still has its liquor license.

A message left for the owner of Taco Beach was not immediately returned.
