A teen boy was shot in the city’s MacArthur Park neighborhood after an argument Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Police responded to the scene at 1:56PM near 15th Street and Rose Avenue when Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel requested their presence regarding a gunshot victim, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Delmy Hughes.

Upon arrival, police and fire personnel were not able to find the victim at the location. They were then notified that the victim was taken to a local hospital by friends, Hughes said.

Authorities said the victim and suspect were involved in a verbal argument when the suspect pulled a small handgun and began shooting, striking the victim on his lower body. The suspect then ran from the area.

The victim was identified only as a 16-year-old Hispanic male. He sustained non-life threatening injuries to his lower body.

The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
