UPDATE | A man injured during a shooting in North Long Beach mid-May has died from his injuries, authorities said.

The incident happened the evening of May 15 near 61st Street and Orange Avenue, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Officials were notified May 25 by a local hospital that Wilmington resident Victor Eugene Alford, 37, died from his injuries, the release stated.

Alford sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was transported the day of the shooting in ciritical condition, according to LBPD Sgt. Brad Johnson.

The area was also the site of another shooting last week that left another man with a non-life threatening injury.

5/15/16 at 3:15PM | A series of shootings that occurred over the weekend resulted in two men being sent to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). One man was reportedly listed in serious condition, while the other one was listed in critical condition.

May 14: Two Shootings

Two shootings occurred Saturday, May 14, according to Sgt. Bradley Johnson of the LBPD, with the first occurring near MacArthur Park and the second occurring in North Long Beach.

Police were dispatched at 12:47AM on May 14 to the 1200 block of 11th Street regarding a shooting, according to Johnson. Upon arrival, police found a man with a gunshot wound to his torso. When the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) subsequently responded, they transported the victim to a local hospital in serious condition.

The man said he had been shot by two male adults while at his residence, and said he had likely interrupted a burglary in progress at his home when shot.

The investigation is ongoing.

In the other shooting that occurred Saturday, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:05PM, where they saw a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Andy Street and Downey Avenue. Once they stopped to conduct a traffic stop, they were informed of a shots heard call on Andy street.

The investigation found both male occupants of the vehicle were gang members and two firearms were recovered from the car, according to Johnson. Further investigation on Andy Street spurred officers to discover that, on the 3400 block of Andy Street, a vehicle and garage door had been struck by gunfire. No injured victims were located.

Johnson said the incident is being investigated as gang-related and the investigation is ongoing.

May 15: One Shooting

At 5:51PM on Sunday, officers were dispatched to 61st Street and Orange Avenue, where they discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to Johnson.

It is unknown if the incident is gang-related, and the investigation is ongoing.
