Long Beach police netted two arrests for driving under the influence during their checkpoint Saturday night in North Long Beach, according to a release.

Officers screened 267 drivers at the checkpoint, at Atlantic Avenue and South Street, between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

In addition to the two DUI’s, two drivers were cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license, seven were cited for being unlicensed and six drivers were cited for unsafe driving.

“If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI,” the release said. “Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI.”

LBPD said DUI offenders can get jail time, have to pay fines and fees, be required to attend DUI classes, get their license suspended and incur expenses that can exceed $10,000, “not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds everyone to report drunk drivers by calling 9-1-1.
