The man who died after being struck in lanes of Pacific Coast Highway was hit by only one car, and the driver did not flee but cooperated with authorities, Long Beach police said Tuesday, a reversal of some of the initial information they provided.
Soon after the crash, which occurred about 4:25 a.m. Dec. 31, police said the man had been in the eastbound lanes of PCH between Daisy and Maine avenues when he was hit by two different vehicles, one of which left the scene.
When asked for additional information Tuesday, a Long Beach Police Department spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing and did not provide an explanation of why police initially believed two vehicles were involved.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased man as Antone Gregario Williams; he was 40 and homeless.
