2738f05e-4192-4bec-bfd3-6295d3bd17afDeputy Fire Chief David A. Segura announced his resignation from the City of Long Beach Tuesday to accept the position of Fire Chief for the City of Huntington Beach.

Segura was hired as a Firefighter on April 21, 1986, and has served as a Paramedic, Captain, Battalion Chief and Assistant Chief, according to the announcement.

“For the past 30 years, it has been my privilege and honor to have served the great community of Long Beach,” said Deputy Chief Segura in a statement. “I am grateful to our Employees and their commitment to public service, and I am thankful for the support and the leadership of our City management team and our elected officials.”

Segura will succeed Patrick McIntosh, who retired in November after six years as Huntington Beach Deputy Fire Chief and a 36-year career, according to the Orange County Register

Segura, a Huntington Beach resident, currently directs the City of Long Beach’s Support Services Bureau and is responsible for the recruitment and screening of potential Fire Recruit candidates, alongside ensuring the competence of the Fire Department’s most recently added members.

“Deputy Chief Segura has been a tremendous asset for the Long Beach Fire Department for nearly three decades,” said Fire Chief Mike DuRee in a statement. “His dedication to the Fire Service and his steadfast commitment to the community we serve shows on a daily basis. We are so proud of Dave’s promotion to Fire Chief in Huntington Beach and know that he will serve that community with the same level of professionalism that has become his hallmark in Long Beach.”

Segura’s last day with Long Beach will be Friday, March 18 and, if Huntington Beach City Council approves his hire on Monday, will start the job on April 4, according to the Orange County Register’s announcement, where he would lead “a department with an annual operating budget of 45.6 million, eight fire stations, 198 full-time positions, a regional training center and a marine safety headquarters.”

Segura is currently earning his master’s degree of Public Administration at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB), while he earned his associate’s degree in Fire Science from Long Beach City College and his bachelor’s degree in Occupational Studies from CSULB, according to the release.

“While it is difficult to leave Long Beach, I look forward to the personal and professional challenges that come with this wonderful opportunity for me and my family,” Segura added.
