Consumers should beware of online scammers ahead of Father’s Day this Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials are asking those looking to buy presents for dad to be wary of deeply discounted deals offered via email.

“The week before Father’s Day, identity thieves flood inboxes with promotions touting the ‘Perfect Gift for Father’s Day’ that hawk liquor, cigars and other popular items for dad,” the press release states. 

Fraudsters then use stolen identifying information and credit card numbers for their own use, officials said.

Some tips include refraining from believing bogus coupon codes that promise huge discounts and not clicking on the URL contained in the spam message that will redirect consumers to a website with the fake offer.
