One person was taken to the hospital to treat minor smoke inhalation after firefighters doused a blaze on a fourth-floor balcony in Downtown Long Beach on Sunday, authorities said.

The flames broke out around 4:15 p.m. at a five-story apartment building near Broadway and Atlantic Avenue, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

Firefighters quickly made their way onto the balcony and had the flames doused before 4:30 p.m., Long Beach Fire Capt. Matt Dobberpuhl said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what started the fire or how much damage it did, Dobberpuhl said.
