A construction worker suffered a significant leg injury when a steel beam fell on him and pinned him on the second floor of a construction site for a mixed-use development in downtown Long Beach this morning.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel responded to the industrial accident on the north side of Cedar Avenue and Broadway at 8:10AM. When they arrived they discovered the worker was already extricated, according to LBFD spokesman Brian Fisk.

Paramedics then transported him to a local hospital with “a significant leg fracture,” Fisk said.

“What happened was a concrete form for one of the pillars fell and leaned onto the second floor of where he was working and pinned him,” said Fisk.

The site will be the future AMLI Park Broadway mixed-use development project, located at 245 West Broadway, that will feature 222 units of residential living, a three-story parking garage and around 8,500 square feet of retail space.
