A man who was experiencing homelessness in Long Beach died after being shot shortly after 3 a.m. Friday, police said.

Few details were available, but police identified the victim as a 31-year-old man. As of late Friday afternoon, police identified the man as Reginald English.

After being called about the shooting, officers found the man on the sidewalk near the intersection of Ninth Street and Daisy Avenue, just east of Drake Park, police said. He had gunshot wounds to the lower and upper parts of his body, police said. He died at the scene, according to the LBPD.

“The motive for the shooting remains under investigation by homicide detectives,” police said. “There is currently no suspect information.”

It was the second overnight homicide reported by police. A few hours earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot to death about a mile away.

Police do not have a suspect or motive in that case either, although they suspect the killing was gang-related.
